Joyce Carr Stedelbauer – Journey to a Blog

Spread the love
Joyce Carr Stedelbauer

BLOG is not a beautiful word.  Rhyming with smog and vlog and augh doesn’t improve this word one bit.  As a poet, I look for rich, beautiful, meaningful, imaginative words, surprising words, but I would never choose to Blog.  I loved the movie Julia and Julie bur it convinced me that blogging was not for me.  My I-phone tells me way more than I want to know but I quickly see that this word was coined on May 23, 1999 and is the shortened form of weblog.

But last December 2017 I met a new friend who sent me on a journey to a blog.  She is the creative founder and publisher, Jeanne Johansen of Hightide Publications.  She uses words as artful tools to craft and create words into prose and poetry.  Her words are rich, beautiful, meaningful, imaginative, surprising and very persuasive.

Together we have just introduced a new children’s book, THE AWESOME ALPHABET ANIMAL PARTY. It has already generated some local excitement.  Today is the second tea party given by one of my dear friends.  Jeanne is coming too and I will be so happy to introduce her to some Williamsburg friends.

Jeanne wants all of her authors to blog regularly.  At first, I thought it was for just 4 weeks.  Because I like to please, especially some new friend I admire, I agreed.  I noted she is not only beautiful but very persuasive.  I realize now she must have expected that whatever you do for a month becomes a new habit.  And she is teaching us to be more resourceful and helping us to reach a wider readership.

I would much rather relate more of the true stories from THE RED SUITCASE or make-up new children’s stories.  But as with most journeys there are always new byways. So we shall see what comes and I must thank Jeanne for her friendship and guidance.
