Did you ever forget something? Cantaloupes are sweet, a favorite fruit. I was recently advised to put one in a paper bag in a closet to bring it to optimum ripeness. I knew to do that with peaches but not melons. But I forgot until it was almost too late.
My little alphabet poem that I had written 18 years ago for my grandson’s 2ndgrade class lay in a manilla envelope in a drawer, that I had forgotten about until it was almost too late—almost. At the Christmas luncheon of the Poetry Society of Virginia I was introduced to Jeanne Johansen. She asked me what else I had and invited me to send it to her at HighTide Publicatons, for her consideration. I first thought of some of the travel poems from the Red Suitcase but then decided to show her that poem of long ago because the very creative teacher had asked the children to look up these animals and birds, some very unusual ones, and draw them. The result was a child-illustrated fantasy of wonderful drawings which I called THE AWESOME ALPHABET PARTY that I had forgotten. Surprise! She thought we should bring it to life. With Jeanne’s amazing technological alchemy, she cleaned up the pages, restored terrific color and arranged the layout into 38 exciting pages for an appealing children’s book. We also made it interactive with questions and answers (in case the parents don’t know). In fact how many toes does an Aardvark have? Plus several places for the reader to add some drawings.
“IM EXCITED, WE’RE INVITED TO THE AWESOME ALPHABET ANIMAL PARTY!”
The bright yellow books arrived yesterday and are available from Amazon or the trunk of my car. “Have books will travel.”
