Joyce Carr Stedelbauer – The God of Green – June 29, 2018

Spread the love
Joyce Carr Stedelbauer

Now that HIGHTIDE PUBLISHER has brought THE AWESOME ALPHABET ANIMAL
PARTY to life I think of other poems that I have written which express my thoughts.  In fact I feel more at home with a poetic voice in many ways.  Every morning in the green seasons I begin the day on our screened porch surrounded by a great variety of Virginia trees and birdsongs for music.

     THE GOD OF GREEN

I exalt you, great Creator of green,
calling verdant hills to rise like roiling seas,
balancing virescent earth on rainbow beam,
releasing hungry butterflies and bees.

I extol you, Artist of the universe,
painting sprouts, spinach, bean, with hand unseen,
dipping kiwi, lime, pear—bounty diverse
as jeweled moss to the deepest aquamarine.

I esteem you, Source of life that never dies:
nascent leaf, grass, emerald wings that flash
like hot chartreuse lightning in jaded skies
nourishing green of pine, willow, mountain ash.

I express gratitude, God of all green hue
and ponder love that made violets blue.

In Jewish tradition they have a song that tells of God’s many blessings, repeating the phrase,
“It would have been enough”.  Remembering that when considering the myriad colors of sea, earth and sky resulted in this poem.  Maybe you like to write too. What will tomorrow morning say to you?

JOYCE CARR STEDELBAUER is also the author of 4 books of meditation and poetry.

HAVE YOU MET EVE?

HAVE YOU SEEN THE STAR?

WHO ROLLED THE STONE?

WHERE ARE YOU ADAM?
